The International Violin Competition Sion Valais, presided by Shlomo Mintz since 2002, is one of the most important international competitions. It has been member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions since 1976.
Based upon principles of equity and respect, the Competition’s aims are to identify young talented violonists, to enrich the participants experience and practice of music, and give encouragement and support to prize-winners for the next steps in their career.
To that end, an International Jury, composed of eminent specialists of the violin (performers and teachers) and distinguished representatives of the world of music, will seek to bring out each participant's gift for music.
All violinists between the ages of 15 and 32, whatever their nationality, may take part in the Competition. Application forms can be submitted directly online or sent by slow mail to the address of the Festival office (see « application »). A first selection will be made upon the basis of pre-recorded performance on video in order to ensure a high level.
