"The Art of Making Violins" : Conferences and Workshops

 
FRIDAY AUGUST 27, Ancien Pénitencier Museum, 8 PM

Round-table conference chaired jointly by Amnon WEINSTEIN and Roland BAUMGARTNER, violin maker from Basel, with the participation of Jean-Noël RYBICKI, violin maker from Sion, Hans Ruedi HOESLI, Director of the Brienz School, Jean-Jacques FASNACHT, violin maker and restorer from the Canton de Vaud, Yann ULLERN, expert violin maker from Paris.

Presentations on the Art of Making Violins: historical evolution, great violin making schools, restoring violins, identification and expertise, history of the restoration of “The Violins of Hope”. Interaction between specialists and audience.

Introduction to the art of violin making by the Director and students of the Brienz School.

The profession of violin making. The creation of a violin: workmanship, acoustic.Training to be a violin maker.

SUNDAY AUGUST 29, Ancien Pénitencier, 3:30 PM
 

Master Violin Maker Amnon Weinstein presents the Violins of Hope.

The search for lost violins: such is Master Violin Maker Amnon Weinstein's passion. During this conference, he will share his work and his experience with the audience. The presentation will be followed by a concert by the New Russian Quartet, which will play Shostakovich's renowned eighth string quartet, which was dedicated by the composer to "vicitims of war and fascism".
