EXHIBITION "THE VIOLINS OF HOPE": WORLD PREMIERE IN SION!

At the 46th International Music Festival, Sion “Capital of the Violin” will be hosting from August 18 – September 15 an exceptional event organised in collaboration with the Cantonal Museums of Valais: “The Violins of Hope”. 18 violins, from a collection of 24, recovered from the Shoah and restored by the Master Violin Maker Amnon Weinstein will be displayed from August 18th to September 15th 2010 in the historical setting of the “Ancien Pénitencier” of Sion – a former prison which has been converted into an Art Museum.

CONCERTS FEATURING WELL KNOWN INTERNATIONAL SOLOISTS
In particular Maestro Shlomo MINTZ, Artistic Director of the International Music Festival Sion Valais and President of the International Violin Competition Jury.

CONFERENCES AND WORKSHOPS
On themes relating to the exhibition and the “Art of Violin Making”, under the direction of Amnon WEINSTEIN and Roland BAUMGARTNER, illustrating the history of the violins of hope and the musicians who played them, as well as the art of violin making in general.

FESTIVAL OFF
On Wednesdays and Fridays at 11:30 AM during the entire Festival period, enjoy free concerts at the Ancien Pénitencier museum (3rd floor)! The concerts stage young talented musicians from Switzerland and abroad. Each concert is followed by a traditionally valaisan "apéritif".
